Our class meets on Thursdays 2:25 pm to 5:25 pm in room 201 Dairy Cattle Center. Below is the course schedule for Spring 2012.   • Wk 07 — Th 03/08 — Mid term: Physical Exam Practicum | Cow data collection project computer lab
    • See: Mid term description and schedule.
    • Computer lab: During regular class time, Jerry Guenther and one of the class TA will help you with collecting data from the dairy comp 305 files (e.g., milk production, calving info and health-related events) and gathering other data from the posted files (dry matter intake, body condition score and body weights) to construct you excel cow data collection sheet.  Your goal for this lab is to create the graphs that will be part of your progress and final report.  Unless you are the first student to take the exam, you should plan on meeting in the computer lab room 236 Animal Sciences Building at 2:25 pm.

      • Please use your log in to gain access to the Dairy Land Initiative web site, click on the "BluePrint" tab and on "Adult Cow Housing Decision Tree."
      • Read at a minimum the key points of the topics listed on that page. 
      • Draw on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper the layout of an 80-cow free stall pen with basic oritentation (e.g., relation to parlor) considering the following features:
        • Pen layout of stalls (# of rows) | Stall configuration (e.g., head-to-head) | Stall dimension (top and side views) | Stall bedding;
        • Feeding alley (e.g., head lock, rail) | length | water trough, etc.
        • Ventilation | side wall structures | heat abatement method, etc.
      • Bring the drawing in class (3 pts of your weekly class participation grade).
